My interest in art started while I was in high school. I was encouraged by my teachers but I was unable to pursue this after graduation. In the mid 80’s I was able to return to my art education and started taking art lessons from Sue Hand, who is a nationally recognized artist living in Dallas, PA. She reignited my desire to try all forms of painting. I have worked in all types of mediums ( pen & ink, colored pencil, pastels, watercolor, acrylic, and oil) and even experimented in making my own mediums using things found in nature.

After a few years I was recommended to teach an art class to inmates in a local state prison. Some of my students were hardened life criminals. It was very rewarding for me because it showed that there was still room for expression in their lives. Later I taught children and adult art classes at the Wyoming Valley Art League, Wilkes-Barre. PA. I am presently teaching art in a local Montessori school to children from Kindergarten to 6th grade. I enjoy opening their minds to recognize all forms of art.

I recently received my degree in commercial art. While in college I taught a class in mural painting; which the class did a design that won a local competition. During the years I have done faux finishing on walls for customers; along with murals for residential and commercial customers and repairs to existing murals. Also I am recently scheduled to teach silk painting classes at a local art shop. I have had several shows through out the area featuring my work. My work has won local and national competitions.

I am a member of the Pennsylvania En Plein Air Society, Dallas, PA Pocono Mountain Arts Council, Tobyhanna, PA and the Catherine Lorillard Art League, New York. I have been an active member in the Wyoming Valley Art League, Wilkes-Barre, PA since 1997, where I have served on several committees and am a past president.

My business “Silks and Creations by Catherine Laskaris” has created a new outlet for my artwork. I make had painted silk items and sell them at local shops, and juried fine art craft fairs. I am still active in painting all types of surfaces with any type of medium. I look forward to finding new and different ways to create art work. My work is also available for purchase on line.
